Michelle D. Martinez, CWC
Hey! I’m Michelle. Nice to (virtually) meet you. Read through as little or as much of this bio as you like and let me know if you want to chat over the phone. Congratulations on your engagement and Happy Planning!!
Education / Certification
First off, I’m a professional! I went to school for this. I am a Certified Wedding Consultant (CWC). I attended The San Francisco State University, College of Extended Learning. I obtained my certification in 2002.
I want you to know this about me.
Every day, I wake up and try to live my life in a way where I honor every moment. If I’m preparing a school lunch in the morning, I do it with love. If I’m washing the dishes for the 3rd time that day, I do it with purpose. If I’m teaching a Yoga class, I breathe deep and watch my students to ensure they are safe and breathing deep. If I’m listening to a Podcast, I try and take away at least one tip that has enlightened me. If I’m working on a Wedding Day Schedule, I do it with thoughtfulness and attention to detail. Life is long or life is short but no matter how you look at it, every day is a gift and an opportunity...pure potential.
I have been working in the Events Industry for over 18 years.
In the past, I worked in a handful of hotels in the San Francisco Bay Area. I started out as the Assistant to the General Manager. Thru the years, I made my way through Sales, Marketing and Convention Services. Hospitality is in my blood.
During the dot-com boom in San Francisco, I decided to switch gears. I started working at huge Real Estate Portal as an Executive Assistant to the President. I then worked my way to becoming Facilities Manager. The company I worked for purchased another smaller company. I then facilitated the move of 500+ employees to a larger office building.
Learning to run a business
My father purchased a limousine service when I was 16 years old. I helped my dad run the limo service after school doing as much as he could teach me. I worked answering phones, creating reservations and dispatching. I was good at talking to people about their weddings. In fact, every time Dad would get a wedding inquiry, he put me on the phone. I just LOVED talking to excited couples about their wedding day transportation. So fun!
My Dad built his business from two limos to a fleet of six limos and four town cars. It grew from our kitchen table to an office building with over 15 employees. Yeah, I was pretty proud of him for that. And I have been forever grateful for my dad's mentorship and guidance in running a small business.
West Coast / East Coast
I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area (the best place on earth). I currently live 15 minutes from Boston, Massachusetts. I travel between Boston and San Francisco for weddings. Besides coordinating weddings, I teach a Wedding Planning Business Course at my alma mater. The San Francisco State University, College of Extended Learning.
My husband and I married 14 years ago (together for 20!). He is the love of my life and also happens to be the designer of this website.
I have 2 children. Santiago is 8 and he’s obsessed with Minecraft. Francesca is 6 and she’s obsessed with creating art.
I am a Certified Yoga Instructor. I teach classes and practice at least 4 times a week. I offer Private Yoga Instruction as an extra service to my wedding clients.
I’m a Sagittarius. If Astrology is important to you, then that’s a useful piece of info.
I studied Musical Theatre and acting for quite a few years when I was younger. I always thought I would be a famous singer and actress when I grew up. There’s still time!
I LOVE listening to a good podcast. Some of my favorite podcasts right now are: The Tim Ferriss Show, The StartUp Podcast, The Mystery Show, Here’s The Thing with Alec Baldwin, Oh, and I was a guest on a friend’s podcast about everyday women and some of their stories called Made to Shine with Milca Benson (episode #10).
